Rohan Bopanna is a professional tennis player who is currently ranked 10 in Men’s Doubles.
Rohan began playing tennis at the age of 11 encouraged by his father. His father, M. G. Bopanna, is a coffee planter, and his mother, Malika Bopanna, is a housewife.
Bopanna distinguished himself as one of India’s finest doubles players at the 2007 Hopman Cup. Bopanna lost his singles matches, but helped clinch victory with Sania Mirza over the Czech Republic and Croatia. India lost to Spain to finish runners-up in Group B.
Bopanna partnered with Qureshi in doubles in 2007. The duo, nicknamed the IndoPak Express, went on to win four Challenger titles in quick succession. However, it was only in the 2010 season that the pair broke into the top 10 doubles teams. Recognized globally for their campaign “Stop War Start Tennis”, Bopanna was awarded the renowned Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year award in 2010, along with Qureshi. The duo were also voted winners of the Peace and Sport’s Image of the Year award by their fans.
Bopanna reached the Grand Slam finals of US Open 2010 with Qureshi, losing to Bryan brothers. He has won 3 Masters titles and been runner up in 4 events.
